McCain: Send U.S. Special Forces to Rescue Nigerian Girls

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/05/13/mccain-send-u-s-special-for
ces-to-rescue-nigerian-girls.html

"The hawkish Senator tells The Daily Beast that American forces should
#BringBackOurGirls-even if the Nigerian government says no."

"The United States should send in special forces to rescue the hundreds of
girls kidnapped by Boko Haram-whether the Nigerian government gives
permission or not, according to Sen. John McCain."

This is nuts.  It's not surprising that the Honorable Senator McCain would
advocate a stronger U.S. Government response than issuing cheesy supportive
statements on Twitter. However, it's hard to see how he could really imagine
that it would be a good idea to send American forces into Nigeria, under any
circumstances, much less without permission from the Nigerian Government.
Regardless of the sympathy one holds for the kidnapped girls, any rescue
operation at this point would as likely be a disaster as not. Which further
begs the question of what vital national interest America has in Nigeria
that would justify risking the lives of American serviceman? Particularly on
such a vain hope.
