Believe it or not, there are a lot of plans to split up states currently in
the works.

Just a decade ago these proposals would have been considered un-serious, if
not downright crazy. But my how times have changed!

Many of our major cities have become crime-ridden, over-taxed, business un-friendlymoney pits. Businesses and productive citizens are fleeing these cities, leaving Leftists and welfare clients to dominate the political landscape there. The people who live in and rule these cities are "stuck on
stupid"; they are unwilling to do anything to change the ruinous state of affairs. The suburbs and rural areas in the rest of the states are  growing weary of subsidizing the foolish behavior in the cities with their tax money. Not to mention the difference in culture between the cities and suburbs/rural areas on matters such as gun control, education reform and energy production, such that it is impossible to come to any agreement on anything.  We have come to learn that the Leftists are relentless in seeking
to have everything their way both politically and socially. Conservatives in "fly over land" are growing weary of having to constantly fight with nasty, self-righteous and well-funded Leftists over any and all issues. Like Charles Krauthammer said, Conservatives think Liberals are stupid, while
Liberals think Conservatives are evil. Consequently, we have irreconcilable differences between the Leftists in the big cities and Conservatives in the rest of the state, so serious proposals are now being made to split up these states, frequently to separate the major metropolitan region from the rest
of the state. California, New York. Maryland and Colorado are just a few examples of this trend.

As the debt crisis worsens,  we might see more "city states" forming as
major metropolitan areas are cut loose from the rest of the state.

That is, if a severe debt crisis doesn't cause the USA to go a step further
and break up into separate republics.
