Let's Call a Penalty on the NFL's Anti-Gun Bias

"Tyranny in democratic republics does not proceed in the same way, however.
It ignores the body and goes straight for the soul. The master no longer
says: You will think as I do or die. He says: You are free not to think as I
do. You may keep your life, your property, and everything else. But from
this day forth you shall be as a stranger among us. You will retain your
civic privileges, but they will be of no use to you. For if you seek the
votes of your fellow citizens, they will withhold them, and if you seek only
their esteem, they will feign to refuse even that. You will remain among
men, but you will forfeit your rights to humanity. When you approach your
fellow creatures, they will shun you as one who is impure. And even those
who believe in your innocence will abandon you, lest they, too, be shunned
in turn. Go in peace, I will not take your life, but the life I leave you
with is worse than death." - Alexis de Tocqueville

"In political conflicts, the goal is not to refute your opponent's argument,
but to wipe him from the face of the earth." - Lenin

"In other words, it's okay for a couple of hack politicians to peddle
anti-Second Amendment nonsense, but the NFL is barring a company from airing
an ad designed to sell a legal product."

"For what it's worth, I don't agree with everything in the video. It's wrong
for the NFL to block the ad, but that doesn't mean it's censorship or a
violation of the First Amendment. That occurs when government is prohibiting
a voice from being heard. When a private entity does it, it's just
empty-headed political correctness."

Yes , it's true that it's not technically censorship and /or a violation of
people's First Amendment right to free political speech unless the
government does it. However, this kind of "blacklisting", by influential
national organizations like the NFL,  shunning people whose political views
you disagree with like an Amish apostate,  is suppression of free speech
just as well. Very effective suppression of speech at that, as Alexis De
Tocqueville observed some 187 years ago . Of course, as with everything
else, the Leftists are not opposed to blacklisting when they are the ones
doing it.

As for the Leftists : let them speak. In particular, let the Leftist
politicians tell us who they are, what they really believe and what they
really want to accomplish. Then we'll know enough not to vote for them.
