Analysts-Black Sea port in Ukraine still key to Russia's naval interests

“Russia’s incursion into the Crimean peninsula in Ukraine has drawn attention to its naval base in Sevastopol and its Black Sea Fleet, a modest force of aging ships that military analysts say Russia is trying to modernize.”
Putin wants to get control of Sevastopol and all the other former Soviet Navy bases on the Crimea peninsula. Seizing the Crimea to protect all the ethnic Russians living there from becoming oppressed by the new Ukraine regime gives him a ready made justification for expanding Russian power projection. Putin will join the ranks of Ivan the Terrible, Peter the Great , Catherine the Great, Joseph  Stalin and all the other Russian rulers who expanded the Russian Empire.

De Blasio's anti-rich policies are driving wealthy people out of NYC

 http://nypost.com/2014/03/02/de-blasios-anti-rich-policies-are-driving-wealt
hy-people-out-of-nyc/

"The sneering suggestion that everyone with money is somehow guilty of
something is not a surprise coming from a man who spent his honeymoon on an
illegal trip to Castro's Cuba. What is a surprise is his lack of
appreciation for the impact of wealth on city revenues and the importance of
philanthropy to the arts and education."

"As Bloomberg often noted, about 5,000 very wealthy families paid 30 percent
of the city's income tax. Losing even a few of them means significantly less
money for filling potholes and hiring cops."

"Billions in philanthropy support the arts, ranging from local dance groups
to the flagship institutions that define New York as a world-class city.
Nearly half of the Metropolitan Opera's operating fund comes from donations,
which last year reached $143 million."

"The biggest change in the Bloomberg era was an explosion of charitable
dollars to help fund the charter-school movement, and that seems to
infuriate de Blasio. One reason might be that it threatens his political
base. Charters teach 70,000 kids, and if they keep expanding and succeeding,
they will be an existential threat to the unions that back him."

Looks like NYC  is on track to return to the crime-ridden hell-hole it was
back in the 1970's and '80's. Probably worse this time around. It probably
will turn into an even bigger version of Detroit, should Mayor De Blasio's
Leftist redistributionist polices succeed in driving out the financial
industry. The whole country is broke now and there will be no money to bail
NYC out.

The 'Invisible War:' Armed Border Bandits Targeting Illegal Immigrants

order-Bandits-Targeting-Illegal-Immigrants

"Sylvia Longmire, Breitbart Texas' contributing editor and border security
expert alleged that deadly ambushes along the Mexican border are not
uncommon. "This is a great example of the 'invisible border war' that's
happening right under our noses," she said. "We never hear about it in the
mainstream media. These confrontations between armed 'border bandits' and
drug smugglers, or unarmed illegal immigrants, happen all the time on both
sides of the border... These incredibly violent incidents are happening here
in the United States, and not just in California like in this story. It
happens in Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas, but the bandits are rarely
caught."

The Lessons Of Ukraine - Dick Morris TV: Lunch Alert!

 http://www.dickmorris.com/the-lessons-of-ukraine-dick-morris-tv-lunch-alert/
?utm_source=dmreports&utm_medium=dmreports&utm_campaign=dmreports

Dick Morris' take on the Ukraine crisis. Enjoy!

Saul Alinsky, one of President Obama's exemplars, said it best:

"No one can negotiate without the power to compel negotiation."
(Saul Alinsky Rules for Radicals 1971 p. 119.)

Regardless of that, I don't believe President Obama really cares if Russia
runs roughshod over the Ukraine. I also think he is correct in presuming
that most of the American people don't care about what happens to Ukraine.
So long as what happens there doesn't interfere with his domestic
transformational agenda he could give fig about how crisis plays out.
President Obama DOES realize that he must PRETEND to care about what a
happens in Ukraine, lest our allies and trading partners become panicky in
ways that would likely depress financial markets. Other than that, I don't
imagine that he cares if some of the talking heads on TV think his lack of
definitive action makes him look weak or not. Ultimately those same talking
heads in the main stream news media will give him cover whenever he needs
really it. Not mention that before too long the country's attentions will be
diverted the media to the next soap opera event and then fate of Ukraine
will be forgotten like that of South Ossetia.

Shocking pictures show people in Crimea taking SELFIES with Russian masked gunmen as Ukraine teeters on the brink of war

Interesting. No doubt the people posing for "self-skis" are ethnic Russians.
Over 60% of the people living in Crimea are ethnic Russian. A leftover from
when Ukraine was a republic in the  Soviet Union and the Crimea was home to
the Soviet Navy's Black Sea Fleet, of course.

DWARD LUCAS ANALYSIS: Blood-soaked Crimea, crucible of war for centuries

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-2571719/EDWARD-LUCAS-ANALYSIS-Bloo
d-soaked-Crimea-crucible-war-centuries.html

"Back in the days when British schools taught history and poetry properly,
every child knew about the Charge of the Light Brigade. The epitome of
military foolishness, when the flower of the British cavalry attacked
Russia's  artillery batteries in the Battle of Balaclava in 1854."

"The blundering diplomacy which caused that war is less well known. Alfred,
Lord Tennyson, whose poem immortalized the fiasco, would have struggled to
versify the complex Anglo-French attempts to shore up the Ottoman empire,
amid an obscure squabble about religious privileges in the Holy Land.

"The Crimea, setting for that most infamous calamity, is a peninsula with a
blood-soaked and tragic history. Long contested by the great powers, it has
been the crucible of many wars. Now it threatens to be the flashpoint for
another one."

"Putin's Russia has seized Crimea under our noses. The dismemberment of
Ukraine is under way."

Looks like a Second Crimean War is upon us.

Half a league, half a league,
Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death
    Rode the six hundred.
"Forward, the Light Brigade!
Charge for the guns!" he said:
Into the valley of Death
    Rode the six hundred.

"Forward, the Light Brigade!"
Was there a man dismayed?
Not tho' the soldiers knew
    Someone had blundered:
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die:
Into the valley of Death
    Rode the six hundred.

Does Russia Want Alaska Back

http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2014/03/does_russia_want_alaska_back.html

The answer is yes. Just like Mexico wants California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas back and the Muslims want Spain and southern Russia back. But those are all vain hopes at this point in time and ignore the reasons why they lost those lands in the first place.

In the case of Alaska, Russia was eager to sell it to the USA, because by 1867 it had become a money pit for the Czar’s government. For some 60 years previous, Russia had been making a mint from its Alaska colony by harvesting sea otter pelts to sell to wealthy Chinese for to use as trim on their silk robes. When the market for sea otter fur fell out, Alaska was no longer self-sustaining and as such Russia couldn’t afford to defend it. The Czars government decided it was better to sell it off before some rapacious naval power took it away from them. No doubt the ass-kicking the Russian Navy took from the French and British Navies during  the Crimean War (1853-56) influenced their decision process.

Well now Alaska is worth something again. Technology has advanced to the point where one can harvest the abundant oil and mineral resources in Alaska without getting killed. Not to mention the rich fisheries off the Alaskan coast. So no doubt many in Russia today are looking covetously at Alaska. Well the Russians will  just have to wait until our Leftist ruling elites weaken the country much more before they will have a realistic chance at an Alaskan Reconquista.

GOP Members of Congress Slam Obama Response to Ukraine Crisis

http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/ukraine-crisis/gop-members-congress-slam-ob
ama-response-ukraine-crisis-n42506

"House Intelligence Committee chairman Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich., said on
Fox News Sunday that “Putin is playing chess and I think we are playing
marbles, and I don’t think it’s even close. They’ve been running circles
around us.” Rogers called Obama’s advisers “naive” in their thinking about
Russia."

I don't believe that President Obama and his advisers are "naive " about
Russia, so much that they just don’t care about what Russia is doing in the
Ukraine.  First of all, the priority of the Obama Administration is to
transform the United States of America into their vision of a more just and
equal country (.i.e. a de-industrialized socialist country), thus they lack
an interest in any foreign affairs that don't assist their domestic
transformational agenda.  Second, Obama and his minions were always
sympathetic to the old Soviet Union. After all , the Soviet Union was a
socialist country and so in their minds it was automatically a more just and
equal country than any capitalist country, particularly America. In the
minds of American Leftists, the Soviets only real fault was that they were
too "zealous" ( i.e. killed, imprisoned and internally exiled too many
people) in their endeavors to make their country more just and equal. To
them it's a shame that the noble experiment that was the Union of Soviet
Socialist Republics broke up. So if Putin is attempting to reassemble the
Soviet Union by conquering  his neighbors,  what's wrong with that? Of
course, the Obama Administration can't come out and express such a sentiment
publically, lest  the American people come to the conclusion that they
really ARE a bunch of Communists bent on wrecking the country.

Vladimir Putin Tries to Rebuild the Soviet Union

Yep, looks like he’s doing it a small slice at a time. First Abkhazia and South Ossetia and now the Crimea. Those regions with a significant ethnic Russian presence left over from the former Soviet Union provide a readymade excuse for the Russian Federation to interfere in the local internecine squabbles of the former Soviet republics.

Obama Gives Green Light to Russian Invasion of Ukraine

“Finally, Ukraine is a half-continent too far for the Western Europeans to do anything but talk. Ukrainians who thought the European Union states and the US would come to their rescue are destined for disappointment. In his press statement today, the US President did not say that instability in Ukraine affected US interests. Some analysts interpreted that omission as an American "green light" to the Russians to do what they consider appropriate.”

Basically it’s the same sort of non-committal statement from the U.S. Government that  historians believe “green-lighted” the invasion of South Korea in 1950 and the invasion of Kuwait in 1990. Like it or not, the USA has been the “world policeman” since the conclusion of World War II, so if the USA appears unwilling to intervene, then the aggressor nation in a conflict will generally come to believe that no other country will interfere in its plans to attack another nation and it will have relatively free reign to do what it wants.

“Comment: President Putin appears content to let the West shoulder the economic burdens of a virtually bankrupt western Ukraine, while Russia asserts hegemony over the eastern part and Crimea.”

Open Prison? It appears that the UK has something similar to the "Huber Law" that exists in most American states. Although it appears that in the British version you still get to continue committing crimes during the day.

http://pjmedia.com/tatler/2014/03/02/mobilization-ukraine-calls-up-reserves-

"The question is, just how far is Vladimir Putin willing to go with this
adventure? If Putin is satisfied with securing the Crimea, it is likely that
Ukraine will make a stink at the UN, but won't go to war to save the
region."

"All bets are off, however, if Putin gins up another excuse about ethnic
Russian-speaking Ukrainians in the pro-Moscow eastern provinces being
mistreated and uses that pretext to slice off a large part of Ukraine. It is
doubtful that Kiev would stand by and meekly accept a Russian-imposed
partition of its country."

Now it shouldn't be any wonder why Poland, Hungary, Rumania, Bulgaria,
Slovakia, the Czech Republic and the Baltic states were in a hurry to become
full-fledged members of NATO.

Crimean Tatars deported by Stalin rally against Russia

More background info on the situation in Ukraine.

The Tatars, AKA “Tartars” (people from Hell), are a Turkic people that comprise about 12% of the population of the Crimean Peninsula. Some 60 % of the rest of the population of Crimea are ethnic Russians who want to rejoin with Russia propper. The Tatars were originally vassals of Genghis Kahn’s Mongol Empire and were part of the Mongol “Golden Horde” that conquered Russia and occupied it for many centuries. Later, as the Mongol Empire disintegrated, the Taters converted to Islam became vassals of the Ottoman Turkish Sultan in Istanbul (Constantinople). In 1788 the Russian Czar conquered  the Crimea and the Tatars finally went from being rulers of southern Russia and Ukraine to being a conquered and stateless people themselves.
