A Muslim PhD student murdered in Essex was stabbed 16 times in an attack
that has prompted police to warn local residents not to go out alone.
Nahid Almenea was killed in a "frenzied" attack that may have been motivated
by her Muslim dress while walking to university in Colchester on Tuesday
morning, detectives confirmed.
Her murder is the second fatal stabbing in the town within three months,
prompting police to issue a warning to residents not to walk on their own in
isolated areas while they hunt for the killer.
The 31-year-old was found with multiple stab wounds, two of which proved
fatal, on a footpath near the University of Essex, where she had been taking
an English language course.
She had been wearing a dark blue, full-length robe and a patterned,
multi-coloured headscarf, which Essex Police said may have identified her as
a target for a religiously-motivated attack.
