A woman victim to a Valley, Ala., robbery in the 16th Avenue area says she flipped the script on her attackers, according to a release.
The woman told police that she was being robbed by two unknown men, but managed to draw her weapon and fire shots at the thieves, Valley Police Chief Tommy Weldon said.
On Monday at 3:21 a.m., police were conducting a traffic stop near 17th Avenue when they heard multiple gunshots in the 16th Avenue area, Weldon wrote.
They rushed to the location and found a woman who reported that she was entering her vehicle to head to work when two men approached her. She said one man held an unspecified object to her head, grabbed her hair and directed her to drop her purse, Weldon said in the release.
"As she and the suspect walked to the backyard, they fell to the ground and she retrieved a gun from the small of her back and fired at the suspects," the police chief said.
It's unclear if the suspects were harmed, but officials believe they fled the scene with money they stole from the victim's purse.
Police were not able to locate the robbers, according to the release.
Authorities have not identified either attacker, but the woman told officials that one robber wore a dark mask that covered his face.
The victim was treated at the hospital for back pain she sustained after the fall.
Police would like anyone with information concerning the incident to call the Valley Police Department at 334-756-5200 or Crimestoppers at 334-756-8200.
