Obama snubs his closest ally in fight against Islamic State

Arrogant and petty.  How else do you describe President Obama's treatment of Iraq prime minister Haider al-Abadi following a group photo at the G-7 summit?
President Obama and Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi had an awkward moment at the G-7 summit in Germany, when the latter sat down next to Obama after a group photo and was obviously hoping to speak with him but only got his back.
Obama appeared engrossed in another conversation with International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde and Italian Prime Minister Mario Renzi and didn’t acknowledge al-Abadi. CBS This Morningreported on the footage Monday, with White House correspondent Major Garrett calling it “an awkward moment amid careful summit choreography.”
Obama and al-Abadi will speak today about the fight against the Islamic State terrorist organization, which recently seized the key city of Ramadi.
“The strains in that relationship were all too visible when after the G-7 photo, Abadi tried to steal a moment with Mr. Obama, but the president was so involved in another conversation, he never turned around, leaving the Iraqi prime minister and his translator to walk away in visible frustration,” Garrett said.
Indeed, al-Abadi’s translator actually threw his hands up in annoyance as he and his boss walked away.
We've got 3,000 Americans training Iraqi troops, not to mention hundreds of pilots fighting for the Iraqi government, and Obama turns his back on al-Abadi in a gesture of contempt that only an imperious, arrogant fool would make.  Obama is not interested in Iraq.  He is interested in giving the appearance that he's interested in Iraq, playing out the string, hoping nothing disastrous happens between now and his exit from office.
The last thing he needs is advice from the little pissant Abadi.

Elephant escapes from circus, kills man in Germany

Wouldn’t you know it..it was the one day he didn’t carry his elephant gun with him on his walk.
BERLIN — A German man taking his regular morning stroll was killed by an elephant who had escaped from a nearby circus, police said Saturday.
The 65-year-old man was walking in the woods near Buchen, a town in southwest Germany, when the African elephant attacked him shortly after 5 a.m. (0300 GMT), said Heidelberg police spokeswoman Yvonne Schmierer. She declined to say what injuries the unnamed man suffered.
The 34-year-old female elephant, called 'Baby,' was captured and returned to the circus. Police are now investigating whether someone let the elephant out of its secure enclosure, and why the animal acted aggressively toward the man.
"There's evidence of third party involvement," said Schmierer. "Either someone forgot to shut the enclosure, or the elephant was released intentionally."
German news agency dpa reported that the elephant had previously injured people. It quoted a representative of the German branch of animal rights group PETA calling for authorities to take the elephant away from the circus.

U.S. top court rejects challenge to San Francisco gun regulation

San Francisco residents remain disarmed and rendered powerless to resist any attack on them, even while in their own homes. Their constitutional rights are denied them.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday rejected a challenge by gun rights activists to a San Francisco regulation that requires gun owners to keep their weapons locked up or disabled when stored at home.
By declining to hear an appeal filed by gun owners and the National Rifle Association, the court left intact a March 2014 ruling by the San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that upheld the measure.
The regulation, issued in 2007, states that anyone who keeps a handgun at home must either store it in a locked container or disable it with a trigger lock.
The challengers said the regulation violates the U.S. Constitution's Second Amendment, which guarantees the right to bear arms.
Two of the nine-justice court's conservative justices, Clarence Thomas and Antonin Scalia, said they would have taken the case.
Thomas wrote that the Supreme Court has outlined to lower courts how to approach Second Amendment cases but the courts that oversaw the San Francisco case "have failed to protect it."
In 2012, the gun owners unsuccessfully sought an injunction that would have prevented the regulation from being enforced.
The appeals court also had upheld a regulation banning hollow-point ammunition that is designed to expand or fragment on impact, but that was not at issue in this appeal.
The Supreme Court has not taken up a major gun case since 2010. In the 2008 District of Columbia v. Heller case, the court held that the Second Amendment guaranteed an individual right to bear arms. Two years later in the case McDonald v. City of Chicago, the court held that the earlier ruling applied to the states.
As part of the 2008 ruling, the court struck down the District of Columbia's trigger-lock requirement.
The case on which the court acted on Monday is Jackson v. San Francisco, U.S. Supreme Court, No. 14-704. (Reporting by Lawrence Hurley; Editing by Will Dunham)

Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee says Tiger Woods 'destroyed' his own game

Tiger has lost his mojo. It is quite likely that his injuries (an ACL tear and bulged intervertebral disc in the lower lumber vertebra) and the very public failure of his marriage have contributed to his lack of focus and lack of confidence and his current propensity to tinker and overanalyze. One notices that for lot of men, when their marriage falls apart so does their ability to focus on their job or anything else in their life. They tend to become morose, depressed and distracted (and they don’t have reporters and camera crews following them around). ACL and disc injuries are also very debilitating and painful injuries. Even when they are repaired by surgery you may never be as good as you used to were before the injury. Such injuries and infirmities do not improve with age either. Like they say, if you do a repetitious motion, you will eventually develop a repetitious motion injury. It’s almost a certainty. Oh well, Tiger is still fabulously wealthy and has set so many records he doesn’t need to do anything else.

Saudi Arabia shoots down Scud missile fired from Yemen

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — Saudi Arabia said it shot down a Scud missile fired by Yemen's Shiite rebels and their allies early Saturday at a Saudi city that is home to a large air base, marking a major escalation in the monthslong war.Two missiles launched from a Patriot missile battery shot down the Scud around 2:45 a.m. Saturday (2345 GMT, 7:45 p.m. EDTFriday) around the southwestern city of Khamis Mushait, the official Saudi Press Agency reported.
The agency did not report any casualties in the attack, the first use of a Cold War-era Scud by the rebels since Saudi-led airstrikes began in March.
Khamis Mushait is home to the King Khalid Air Base, the largest such facility in that part of the country. Saudis on social media reported hearing air raid sirens go off around the city during the attack.
The agency blamed Iranian-backed Shiite rebels known as Houthis and their allies in forces loyal to former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh. Yemen's state news agency SABA, now controlled by the Houthis, said the rebels and their allies fired the Scud.
Saudi Arabia leads a coalition targeting the rebels in airstrikes that began March 26 in support of the country's exiled President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi. Those strikes have targeted arms caches and Scud missile sites around the country.
The coalition responded to Saturday's attack by targeting and damaging the launcher, which was located south of the Houthi stronghold of Saada, according to the news agency.
Yemeni security officials said coalition planes launched at least six airstrikes early Saturday against a Houthi convoy heading toward Saada. Airstrikes also hit a convoy in Amran province, which Houthi and tribal officials said was transporting livestock. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they weren't authorized to brief journalists.
Saudi Arabia is the world's largest oil exporter. Its major oil fields are located in the east of the country, far from Khamis Mushait.
The United States has provided logistical support to the mostly Arab coalition. U.S. military officials in the region had no immediate comment.

IN PICTURES: 10 Things You Should Know from ISIS’ New Video

“By Allah you will fear to walk the streets. You will fear working in your offices.”

ISIS’ Al-Hayat Media Center released a new 20-minute, highly produced video today targeted at Balkan Muslims and encouraging them to pledge loyalty to the Islamic State. The narrator is an American, though, so even though the video is steeped in the ISIS version of Balkan history the target audience is wider than Bosnians, Kosovars and Albanians.

'Dances With Wolves' Ranch Heads to Auction

A well made and  entertaining movie but it was really bunch of politically correct nonsense. In reality by the time the story is supposed to have taken place, in 1864, the U.S. Army had already fought two massive wars with the Sioux. Wars even bigger than the so-called  Great Sioux War of 1876 in which the Battle of the Little Bighorn occurred. In fact during the 1862 Sioux war in western Minnesota, over 800 white settlers were killed; the greatest number of US civilian casualties until 9-11.

A massive South Dakota buffalo ranch whose wide swaths of native prairie have been featured in television commercials and movies, including “Dances With Wolves,” is headed to auction July 9, according to listing agent Tom Metzger of Hall and Hall.
The auction is selling about 46,000 acres of Triple U Ranch, a roughly 60,000-acre ranch near Fort Pierre. Included in the sale is a three-bedroom main house on the property as well as two other houses. There is also a shop, barns, slaughterhouse, livestock scale and indoor riding arena.
The ranch’s herd of buffalo, numbering about 1,500, is available for sale separately, said Scott Shuman of Hall and Hall, who is handling the auction. There is no minimum bid, but the owner can choose not to sell if the bids aren’t high enough, Mr. Shuman explained.
© Orion Pictures Corp/Everett CollectionThe auction represents the first time the Triple U Ranch has been on the market since 1959, when it was purchased by the parents of Kaye Ingle, who owns it with her family. She says the family is selling to pay off debts.
Initially the ranch raised cattle, Ms. Ingle said. Her father bought a few buffalo “for a novelty” at first. But as the hardy creatures proved themselves well-suited to the area’s tough winters, the family decided to focus on buffalo rather than cattle.
In 1989, the family was contacted by the South Dakota Department of Tourism and told that Kevin Costner was looking for a buffalo herd to film for a coming movie. The family agreed to let the crew film on their ranch for more than two months. Later, the family was surprised when “Dances with Wolves” became a box office hit and won a bevy of Academy Awards.
“We didn’t expect the movie to be the hit that it was,” Ms. Ingle said. “We thought it was just another Western with soldiers and Indians.” She said a number of fans have visited over the years, especially since the fort built for the film was still on the property. The structures recently succumbed to the weather, however.

Gladiator school to be restored in Rome

Ancient underground tunnel that links Colosseum with remains of gladiatorial training barracks could be restored with donation from Kuwait

An ancient underground tunnel that links the Colosseum with the remains of a gladiatorial training barracks could be restored and opened to the public thanks to a donation from Kuwait.
Generations of gladiators lived and trained in the Ludus Magnus or Great Gladiatorial Training School, the largest such facility inRome, which was located just a few hundred yards from the amphitheatre.
The remains of the training school can still be seen, squeezed between two busy roads in the shadow of the Colosseum and frequently littered with rubbish.
The authorities in Rome have long wanted to restore the archaeological site and open up the tunnel which leads from the barracks into the bowels of the Colosseum.
Gladiators would don their helmets and armour and collect their weapons before walking through the torchlit passageway to emerge onto the sandy arena of the amphitheatre, in scenes depicted memorably by the Ridley Scott film Gladiator, starring Russell Crowe.

Ruins of the ludus magnus (The Great Gladiatorial Training School)
Rome is on the cusp of signing a deal with the Kuwait government, reportedly worth £1.5 million, to help finance the work.
"We are in talks with Kuwait, one of several countries that has shown an interest in investing in Rome's cultural heritage," a spokesman for the city council said.
"For many years the area around the gladiator school has been rather forgotten, and impossible to visit.
"We hope to make some significant improvements and restructure the whole zone."
Cultural heritage officials admitted in a report recently that the Ludus Magnus was in "a poor condition, which is totally incomprehensible and absolutely senseless given the thousands of people who look at the ruins from above each day."
With sites like Pompeii deteriorating alarmingly as walls and even entire villas collapse, Italy is looking to private companies and foreign benefactors to come to the rescue of its unrivalled array of cultural heritage.
In Rome, Bulgari is financing the sprucing up of the Spanish Steps, the shoe company Tod's is paying for the cleaning of the Colosseum and Fendi is funding repairs to the Trevi Fountain.
In Venice, the timber Accademia Bridge is to be restored at a cost of £1.2 million thanks to the Luxottica Group, a designer sunglasses company.
Just up the Grand Canal, the famed Rialto Bridge is being cleaned and restored by Renzo Rosso, the founder of the Diesel jeans company.

5 Odd Things That Raise Your Chances of Divorce

“Equal Chores” is NOT counter-intuitive: if your wife can boss you around she will quickly lose respect for you and leave you for a man she cannot boss around. Keep in mind that 60% of all divorce actions are initiated by the WOMAN. That makes lesbian marriages a real losing proposition, doesn’t it?

(Newser) – A cheating spouse is one obvious reason for divorce, but Prevention rounds up several other weird factors, for reasons that aren't always clear. A sampling:
  • Long commute: When one or more spouse travels 45 minutes or more each way, the rate of divorce ticks up.
  • Peer pressure: People are far more likely to divorce if a family member or a close friend has done so.
  • A daughter: For some reason, a couple whose first child is a girl is more likely to divorce.

  • Equal chores: Maybe the most counter-intuitive of the bunch. Couples who split the housework equally had a higher divorce rate in a Norwegian study.
  • Unequal drinking: Specifically, if the wife drinks more than her husband, it raises the odds of splitsville.

As Automation Increases, A Guaranteed Income Seems Inevitable. Why Import More Of the “Unemployable?”

“Anyone who thinks he’s indispensable, aint!” - General George S. Patton Jr.

During last month’s wave of strikes by fast-food workers advocating for a $15 an hour wage, conservatives and libertarians joked that all the protesters were doing was speeding the move towards automation in the industry. But automation isn’t just going to replace relatively low-skilled workers. And some research into the phenomenon indicates that whatever the growth in efficiency, the jobs that are being replaced aren’t coming back.
For those who claim that these changes simply move jobs from one sector of the economy to another, Ford points to statistics. Blockbuster once employed roughly 60,000 employees nationally. Redbox, in the entire Chicago area, has a staff of seven. A comparison between Google and General Motors is another instructive example. After adjusting for inflation, General Motors earned a profit of around $11 billion in 1979, when it employed 840,000 workers. Google, in 2012, earned almost $14 billion and employed fewer than 38,000 people. He offers many other examples suggesting that not every job lost in one area is gained in another…
The ubiquity of computer trading algorithms on Wall Street is well-known, but Ford also gives many other interesting and less-familiar examples of software encroaching on professions traditionally considered skilled. Narrative Sciences, the company that wrote the sports story on the Red Sox, was a brainchild of researchers at Northwestern and is now used by many media outlets, including Forbes. The CIA provided some investment funding for the company, presumably with the goal of using its products to expedite the analysis and processing of huge streams of intelligence from around the world.
[Afraid of robots? You should be. by Nick Romeo, The Daily Beast, June 3, 2015]
Open borders proponents constantly scream that the economy “needs” more workers, which is just cover for wanting more cheap labor. But even that excuse might not hold water for much longer. And as the country shifts leftward economically, government mandates for high wages may simply price out many of the unskilled workers being imported (aside from those working purely off the books). What is the country to do with all these people?
The answer is give them money. The deliberate importation of an underclass and the creation of a permanent progressive majority makes political sense for the American Left. However, in an economy dominated by automation even in professions once thought immune, a guaranteed national income is all but inevitable. And as more and more “unemployable” people are brought into the country, American politics will be dominated by efforts to constantly increase the guaranteed national income. The ancient equivalent was the “grain dole” that ended up dominating Roman politics as the rich attempted to buy off the support of the proles. And once it was implemented, even Augustus found he couldn’t get rid of it.
The 21st century will create unprecedented challenges for American government, especially for those who care about limiting the role of the state and not expending the federal deficit. It’s disgusting that the American Left seems determined to import people because they will constitute a permanent underclass. But it’s positively obscene that the American Right is refusing to stop a policy that practically guarantees the extinction of its entire ideology.

Multiculturalism doesn't work in Hungary, says Orban

BUDAPEST (Reuters) - The era of multiculturalism is over and Hungary should be spared its effects at all costs, the country's Prime Minister said on Wednesday.
In comments that appeared to toughen his already uncompromising stance on immigration, Viktor Orban was quoted as telling a Hungarian newspaper there should be no "mass-scale" mixing of different creeds.
"Multiculturalism means the coexistence of Islam, Asian religions and Christianity. We will do everything to spare Hungary from that," he said in an interview with daily Napi Gazdasag.
"We welcome non-Christian investors, artists, scientists, but we don't want to mix on a mass scale."
Orban, whose governing Fidesz party is losing ground in the polls to the far-right, anti-immigrant Jobbik party, has clashed with European counterparts over his isolationist views.
At the European Parliament in mid-May, he criticized as "bordering on insanity" EU proposals for migrant quotas drafted in response to thousands of deaths among asylum-seekers trying to reach Europe across the Mediterranean in increasing numbers.
On Wednesday he called Jobbik dangerous for Hungary "because they offer a constant temptation, an intellectual capitulation to the simplest solutions", saying his government would strike a conciliatory tone towards voters.

Special Ops chief reprimanded for public intoxication

From the “It’s so hard to find good help these days” department.

The commander of U.S. Special Operations forces in Central and South America was removed from his post last year after he repeatedly became intoxicated in public, including during a deployment to Peru, documents show.
Army Brig. Gen. Sean P. Mulholland, who oversaw U.S. commandos on counternarcotics missions and training assignments in the region, also got into altercations with civilians on two occasions last year after drinking at a golf club bar near his Florida headquarters, according to military records.
Mulholland, 55, was removed as commander in August. At the time, military officials said in a statement he was “retiring for health and personal reasons,” but they withheld the fact that he had been investigated and reprimanded for misconduct.
A copy of Mulholland’s official reprimand and other documents describing the circumstances surrounding his removal were obtained by The Washington Post under the Freedom of Information Act.
The armed forces have been dogged in recent years by a litany of cases in which senior commanders have gotten into trouble for personal misconduct or become embroiled in ethics scandals. The subject is a sensitive one at the Pentagon, where leaders have vowed to crack down but at the same time have been reluctant to discuss specific cases.
Mulholland is the fourth U.S. general in two years to lose his job or be cited for alcohol-related misbehavior.
A two-star Air Force general in charge of nuclear weapons was relieved of command for drinking too much and hanging out with suspicious women during an official trip to Moscow. An Army major general in charge of a counterterrorism task force in Africa was fired for excessive drinking. And an Air Force brigadier general was cited by investigators for repeatedly drinking on duty andkeeping a vodka bottle in his desk.
In a brief telephone interview, Mulholland said he had been affected by “some medical issues,” including post-traumatic stress disorder and a moderate case of traumatic brain injury. He said his actions were triggered by a lack of sleep, but he declined to comment further about the incidents.
“I’m not in favor of your printing any of this, truly,” he said. “I don’t need this harassment. . . . I just want to be left alone.”
According to his biography, Mulholland served multiple tours in Afghanistan, Iraq and Bosnia during his career. He was appointed commander of U.S. Special Operations Command South in October 2012.
Mulholland’s alcohol-related misconduct was revealed in a formal written reprimand that he received in July 2014 from Adm. William H. McRaven, then commander of U.S. Special Operations Command.
Citing the results of an internal investigation, McRaven reprimanded Mulholland for failing “to exercise restraint in the consumption of alcohol” while on duty in Lima, Peru, in May 2013. The Army commander was also cited for two incidents in the spring of 2014 at a golf club and bar in Homestead, Fla., near the headquarters of U.S. Special Operations Command South.
In the first incident at the Keys Gate Golf Course bar, Mulholland got into an alcohol-fueled argument with a civilian “that culminated in physical contact in front of civilians and enlisted personnel,” according to the letter of reprimand. In the second, he drank and got into “a verbal altercation” with three civilian women that “required others to intervene.”
In his reprimand, McRaven called Mulholland’s behavior “unacceptable,” adding that it “demonstrates a failure of personal and professional judgment and embarrasses the command.”
The Post filed a separate Freedom of Information Act request for a copy of the internal investigative report that would describe Mulholland’s actions in greater detail. The Special Operations Command estimated that it would take between five and seven months to process the request because of a backlog of public-records cases, determining that there was no “compelling need” to consider it before then.
Kenneth McGraw, a spokesman for the Special Operations Command, said McRaven made the decision to remove Mulholland from command after consulting with Gen. Ray Odierno, the Army’s chief of staff, and Marine Gen. John F. Kelly, who as head of U.S. Southern Command oversees all military operations in Central and South America.
A spokeswoman for Kelly declined to comment. In a statement, the Army said Mulholland retired from the service on May 1 but was stripped of a star and demoted to colonel after a review overseen by Army Secretary John McHugh.
The decision “underscores the Army’s commitment to holding senior leaders accountable, and is consistent with Secretary McHugh’s treatment of similar cases,” the statement said.
Mulholland has since taken a job in the private sector. He works as vice president of strategic development for Emerging Technology Support LLC, a North Carolina-based defense contractor.

LISTEN: Ann Coulter exposes a gruesome but neglected double standard in the immigration debate

We’re importing illegal immigrants to commit the crimes Americans won’t commit.

“American women are about to realize American men were the best they ever had it”
Share:
The massive amount of child rape [was most outrageous to Coulter]. Child rape, gang rape, incest rape, and particularly for an American. I mean, American women are about to realize American men were the best they ever had it. As I say in the book, even continental Europeans can’t compete. In de Tocqueville, writing about America, he commented on how women are treated with such respect and honor, and no crime is visited with greater severity of sanction then rape in this new country of America — contrasting America’s treatment of rape so severely unfavorable with that in France.

Meanwhile, I mean part of the reason I concentrated on it is they’re just kind of arresting, keep-you-up-all-night stories … but also we have just lived through the last four or five years of the media trying to put on this conceptual art piece trying to persuade Americans that “white American men: huge gang-rapists, fraternities, lacrosse teams, the military.” And one after another all of them turn out to be hoaxes. But at the very same time, this same media is hiding shocking case of gang rape, child rape, incest rape, concubinage.
That Indian in San Francisco Lakireddy Bali Reddy, importing the 12-year-old girls from India whom he had bought from their parents for sex. And that story — I mean it’s the one thing when I came across — it wasn’t broken by the media, it was broken by a high school journalism class … It’s I think quite a breathtaking story. And I asked a lot of my friends about it who follow the news pretty closely, some of them more closely than I do. The fact that none of them knew about that case, that tells you, that story by itself tells you how the media is in overdrive to hide the downside of mass immigration from the Third World. We will hear about every immigrant who wins a spelling bee, but we will not hear about the massive uptick in child rape, gang rape, incest rape, drunk driving, the trashing of our national parks, pesticides being dumped within a few miles of the world’s tallest tree. Peasant cultures don’t have a lot of respect for the environment — they have no concept of litter … Mexico is farther along then many of the peasant cultures we’re bringing in, and Mexico is still in the slash and burn stage of capitalism.

House bill would require gun owners to have liability insurance

No chance of this bill passing, but does show you that the enemies of your Second Amendment rights never give up. They will not quit until we are all disarmed. They will never bargain in good faith or  be honest about what they really want to accomplish: outlawing all private ownership of guns. To the gun control advocates private gun ownership is nothing but a dangerous nuisance. So when they talk about “common sense gun laws”, they really mean that it is common sense to them that nobody should be allowed to own guns.
House Democrat Rep. Carolyn Maloney (N.Y.) has introduced a bill that would require gun owners to carry liability insurance.
The Firearm Risk Protection Act, unveiled Friday, would require gun buyers to have liability insurance coverage before being allowed to purchase a weapon, and would impose a fine of $10,000 if an owner is found not to have it. Service members and law enforcement officers, however, would be exempt from the requirement.
“We require insurance to own a car, but no such requirement exists for guns," Maloney said in a statement. "The results are clear: car fatalities have declined by 25 percent in the last decade, but gun fatalities continue to rise.”
Maloney said auto insurance carriers incentivize drivers to take precautions to reduce accidents, but no such incentives exist for firearm owners.
“An insurance requirement would allow the free market to encourage cautious behavior and help save lives,” she said. “Adequate liability coverage would also ensure that the victims of gun violence are fairly compensated when crimes or accidents occur."
This is the second time Maloney, who is one of the biggest gun control advocates in Congress, has introduced the legislation. A few weeks ago she reintroduced legislation that would require sellers to obtain a background check for all guns sold at gun shows.
The Gun Show Loophole Closing Act, long championed by former Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.), would subject anyone selling or transferring a gun to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System and require that transfers be reported to the attorney general.

An Obama Crime Wave Spreads Across America

Hey!…Let’s be careful out there!

Lawlessness: Fueled by this president's anti-police policies and race-baiting rhetoric, thugs are attacking cops and terrorizing major cities. Horrible violence is breaking out all over. We are witnessing a national crime wave.
Law enforcement expects to see an escalation in criminal activity over the summer. Already we've seen a disturbing trend in May, including:
• The deadliest month Baltimore has seen in more than 15 years, with almost 30 shootings and nine deaths just over the holiday weekend. That makes well over 100 murders this year, compared with 71 at this time last year, the fastest the city has reached 100 homicides since 2007.
• Any time Baltimore officers respond to calls on the city's west side, scene of the Freddie Gray riots, as many as 50 people threaten them, Police Chief Anthony Batts says. "We have to send out multiple units just to do basic police work," he said. "It makes it very difficult to follow up on violence that takes place there."
• In Melbourne, Fla., likewise, police have reported mobs surrounding and striking cops trying to handcuff suspects in two separate cases in the past two weeks.
• A similar spike in violence was reported in Chicago, where 12 people were killed and at least 44 — including a 4-year-old girl — wounded in mostly gang-related shootings over the Memorial Day weekend.
• In Manhattan, 16 people have been murdered this year, a 45% jump over the same period last year, while the number of shooting victims nearly doubled, from 33 to 61. That doesn't include a rash of Central Park muggings, subway assaults and vandalism.
• In the nation's capital, the so-called "D.C. Mansion Murders" have gripped the city, which is suffering a similar surge in homicides.
V In Omaha, Neb., a white female police officer was shot and killed by a black gang member as she tried to serve him a felony arrest warrant.
• A New Orleans housing authority cop, also white, was gunned down as he sat in his patrol car — the first on-duty death in the department's history.
• In Rio Rancho, N.M., another white police officer was gunned down after pulling over a gang member during a traffic stop — the first officer shot and killed in the line of duty in the department's 34-year history.
Victims can blame the crime surge on politicians who give criminals "space" to break the law. Who order cops to stop "stop and frisks." Who tie their hands while giving thugs license to loot and kill.
Called "racists," officers' morale is in the sewer. Cops fear for their safety and worry about being unfairly accused of using excessive force against black criminals.
New York's liberal mayor is even calling for "amnesty" for criminals with outstanding warrants, on recommendation from President Obama's police reform task force, which also urges police to "de-escalate and retreat" when trying to arrest violent offenders.
Obama, meanwhile, has unilaterally disarmed local police by banning military-style antiriot gear.
This is a recipe for the national crime wave we predicted in January 2009. Then, we editorialized that "Obama may have to deal with a crime wave the likes of which we haven't seen in decades," thanks to his soft-on-crime urban policies.
Regrettably, crime was an issue left undebated during the last two presidential races. It should move front and center this campaign.

2 Things That Are Happening Right Now That Have Never Happened Outside Of A Recession

But other than that, we are in a boom economy.

If we are not heading into a recession, why does our economy continue to act as if that is precisely what is happening?  As you will see below, we learned this week that factory orders have declined year over year for six months in a row.  That is something that has never happened outside of a time of recession.  We have also seen new orders for consumer goods fall dramatically.  In fact, the only time we have seen a more dramatic decline in that number was during the last recession.  And when you add these two items to what I have written about previously, the overall economic picture becomes even more disturbing.  Corporate profits have fallen for two quarters in a row, our exports fell by 7.6 percent during the first quarter of 2015, and U.S. GDP contracted by 0.7 percent during Q1.  Even though Barack Obama and the mainstream media are willingly ignoring them, the truth is that these numbers are absolutely screaming that we are going into a new recession.Sometimes, a picture is worth more than a thousand words, and I believe that is certainly the case with the chart that I have posted below.  It comes from Zero Hedge, and it shows that factory orders have declined year over year for six months in a row.  The only times when this has ever happened before have been when the U.S. economy has been in recession…

No, An iPhone Didn’t Save An Englishman Man From A Shotgun Blast

Dozens of general news sites are carrying some variation of this “an iPhone saved his life!” story today. They problem is, that story probably isn’t exactly true:

A 25-year-old man who was shot in the chest is alive, thanks to an Apple iPhone he had in his pocket.
Nineteen-year-old Ryan Duggan has been found guilty of attempted murder after shooting a man in Cheshire County, England.
The victim was walking home at about 8:30 p.m. in October 2014 after taking his dog for a walk. When he came home, he noticed the water at his apartment had been turned off, according to a news release from Cheshire police.
The victim suspected a group outside, which Duggan was a part of, was responsible for turning off the water and went out to speak to them, resulting in a verbal altercation and a chase. During the chase, Duggan pulled out a sawed-off shotgun and fired it at the victim, according to the news release.
The victim fell to the floor after sustaining serious injuries and was taken to Aintree Hospital in serious condition.
But an iPhone in his pocket may be the reason he survived.

Um…. No. Probably not.
If you look at the phone itself, it did take the brunt of a relatively close-range shotgun blast, but what likely saved the victim’s life wasn’t the iPhone in his pocket. So what really saved the life of Daniel Kennedy?
I think that you have to look at the size of the shot itself.
I know some who (thankfully) survived a 12-gauge shotgun blast to the head at close range in a horrific hunting accident because the birdshot in the shotgun didn’t have sufficient mass to penetrate his skull. There are numerous stories—some apocryphal, some quite well-documented—of people being shot in the head, chest, back or sides with birdshot loads in every gauge imaginable, leaving messy but relatively shallow and survivable wounds.
I don’t think there is any doubt that the plastic case of the iPhone 5C in Mr. Kennedy’s pocket helped slow the pellets, but I’d be willing to bet that his jacket holding the iPhone, his shirt or sweater underneath, his epidermis, and especially his ribs did far more to keep the light shot from penetrating deeply. Other pellets missed the phone completely, and they didn’t penetrate his vitals, either.
So why do stories like this get legs?
Frankly, I think is falls back on “magical thinking,” and a desire of those who refuse to defend themselves that they don’t need to be armed in their own defense. If they convince themselves that a talisman of some sort can protect them from evil—like a “bulletproof” smart phone—then they don’t have to get serious about participating in their own self defense.
Develop an actual defensive strategy. Make smart decisions, such as not chasing area gang members. Learn how to take care of yourself.
Don’t trust your life to little more than wishes, magical thinking, or the cases of cheap plastic phones.

Teen Sues After Police K9 Mauled His Genitals

Don’t eat my junk!

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A federal lawsuit has been filed claiming ‘excessive force’ was used after a police dog attacked a teen’s genitals as he was trying to surrender.
The suit, filed by Javarius Ragin and his mother against the Hialeah police department, claims Ragin’s penis was “literally ripped open” and he was not afforded timely medical care immediately after, according to CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald.
The family’s attorney, Rod Vereen, said doctors stitched up the injury which left extensive scarring.
Ragin, who was 14 at the time, was one of four people inside a stolen car that was pulled over by police on Christmas Day, 2013. Ragin said he was only a passenger.
During the traffic stop, Ragin and the others tried to escape on foot.
Ragin hid in an unlocked shed. He claims officer Earles Gonzalez opened the door and order his K9, Diesel, to attack him even though he had his hands up in the air, according to the Miami Herald.
The suit claims the police officers who arrived on the scene would not call for paramedics. Ragin was eventually taken to Palmetto General Hospital’s Emergency Room.
Vereen said the officers involved in the attack failed to document the use of force against Ragin, spurring a complaint by Ragin to Hialeah’s internal affairs bureau.
Ragin was charged with grand-theft auto, resisting with violence and unoccupied burglary. Those charges were dropped after he completed a program for first-time juvenile offenders.

Family Spends Relaxing Weekend Destroying Outdoors -The Onion

ATLANTA—Feeling refreshed after three days of camping in Georgia’s Oconee National Forest, members of the Prendergast family confirmed Monday they had spent a relaxing weekend destroying the great outdoors. “It’s nice every now and then to escape from the city, get outside, and take some time to really trash nature,” said father of two Dan Prendergast, 49, remarking that the highlight of the trip was a morning hike during which his family was able to toss away their juice bottles, granola bar wrappers, and Ziploc sandwich bags at the summit of Burgess Mountain and along the banks of the Ocmulgee River. “Nothing beats being out in the country and littering with the whole family. It’s easy, too: We just pack up a couple disposable styrofoam coolers with food and drinks, load up the Chevy Suburban, and then drive out into the woods to pollute all that Mother Nature has to offer.” While the Prendergasts all agreed the weekend trip was fun, they told reporters that by Sunday, they were ready to get back to damaging the environment from the comfort of their own 5,000-square-foot air-conditioned home.
