Cuts in Military Mean Job Losses for Career Staff

Looks like the Army is targeting for layoff what they used to call the "mustangs", enlisted soldiers who were given direct commissions as officers to make up for the wartime shortage of junior officers that were supposed to be produced by West Point, ROTC and OCS. When the Army is forced to draw down its personnel strength  precipitously after a war and it can be a pretty heartless business. As I recall the post-Vietnam an post-cold war
drawn downs were just as heartless as this one.

But the good news is that with Russian bombers off our Gulf Coast we'll probably be in another war before you know it and they'll have to call everybody back.
