Wow first one this year eh? The gun is a Taurus “Public Defender” the compact polymer framed version of Taurus’s “Judge” series of revolvers. It fires .45 Colt cartridges and 2.5” long .410 caliber shotshells and holds five rounds in the cylinder. The Judge has become a popular model with purchasers looking for a home defense gun. Surprisingly so given that a revolver/shotgun is an unconventional and largely untested arrangement. Nevertheless The Judge is a very intimidating looking “BFG”, which apparently makes it attractive to homeowners who want to be able to scare off intruders. Plus loading it with .410 buckshot shells holding three to five OO buck pellets (.33 caliber) would seem to give one increased hit probably at normal handgun combat ranges (21 feet or less) should it become necessary to open fire in one’s defense. Anyway The Judge has sold well enough over the past decade that Taurus’ competitor Smith & Wesson found it advisable to market their own .45 Colt / .410 revolver which they named the “Governor”.
If you travel by air frequently and carry concealed it is best to have separate luggage for air travel, both carry-on and check-in bags. Separate from the bag you customarily carry your gun in. That way you won’t possibly forget to empty your bag out completely for air travel and inadvertently take your gun with you to the airport. Keep in mind that the authorities are very unforgiving of such infractions, even when unintentionally committed.
FYI: Federal law does allow you to fly with a gun and ammo in your check-in baggage, but you must declare it at the check-in counter and have the gun unloaded and the gun and any ammo in separate locked cases. Also make sure it will be legal for you to posses the gun at your destination.
