Interesting. Yes, the news media seldom mentions the race of the perpetrator, unless of course the perpetrator was white. As in this case. Unfortunately the robber escaped and went on to rob other people. Regardless it is not the job of a private citizen to apprehend law-breakers. The citizen only has an obligation to protect himself and his family. Attempting to pursue and apprehend a law-breaker is fraught with peril, both physical and legal, for a private citizen and so is usually best avoided. The clerk can consider himself fortunate he came out of the situation personally unharmed and with none of the store’s property stolen.

  • After he was spurned by a Dundee gas station clerk who stuck a pistol in his face, a robber made his way to Milan and Pittsfield Township where he held up two other stores early Saturday.
Dundee Village Manager David W. Uhl said the man walked into the BP Gas Station, 602 Tecumseh St., at 6:12 a.m. and told the employee he was robbing the place. He then lifted his shirt to imply he had a weapon, Mr. Uhl said.
Then the clerk, 60, quickly went into action. He pulled out a .45-caliber handgun and pointed it at the robber, who decided on a change of plans.
“He said, ‘I’m just kidding and ran out the door,’ ” Mr. Uhl said. “Don’t rob the BP should be the message here.”
The robber, apparently was not done though. He made his way to another BP gas station in Milan. Milan police reported that shortly after 6:30 a.m., the man robbed the clerk there, then made his way to Pittsfield Township where he robbed a Circle K.
The hold-up man is described as white, about 5-feet-11, with a thin build. He had a bandana pulled over his face. He fled west on Tecumseh St. in a dark colored vehicle.
The Dundee case is being investigated by Officer Tim Ames and Sgt. John Ouellette.
