A Chattanooga family wakes up to find burglars inside their home, but it was the homeowner's gun that he bought days prior that scared them off.
"One had a tire iron and the guy that was demanding the money maced me and while he was macing me he was telling the guy with the tire iron to hit me because i wasn't complying with his demands," Andrew Buckland said.
Buckland describes the intense moments early Thursday morning inside his Fairfax Drive home.
"I leaned down and grabbed my pistol and I cocked it and got it all ready and the sound was enough to scare them off," he said, "It was money well spent. Even though I didn't get to fire it off, I don't want to harm anyone. I just want them to leave me alone."
The entire incident caught by a surveillance camera Buckland says is hidden on his back patio.
"The four of them kind of huddled together and I guess talked about how they were going to do it. One had the can of mace in his hand and put it in his pocket, the other took the crow bar and wrapped it up in his shirt and then two kicked in the door and then went on to, I guess, the next house, as the other two went into my house and proceeded to rob me," he said.
The burglars may have gotten away empty handed but they did rob this family of their sense of security and this is something Buckland says you can't put a price on.
"My daughter has a birthday coming up. We're just trying to have nice holidays and get stuff for our family and then this happened. It just kind of puts a damper on everything," Buckland said.
Chattanooga police need your help finding these guys before they strike again. All four are described as being white males in their late teens.
