There still is such a thing as “due process of law” in America. Neither the FBI nor any other law enforcement agency chose to pursue any charges against Omar Mateen, which allowed him to maintain the right to buy a gun as a citizen of the USA and a resident of Florida. The Fifth Amendment states that no person will be deprived of “life, liberty or property, without due process of law”. Due process meaning a fair and impartial trial in a court of law, rather than an arbitrary decision made by an unelected bureaucrat. Just being suspected of something or questioned by authorities doesn’t automatically deprive you of your Constitutional rights. For example, being on the “terrorist no fly” list shouldn’t necessarily deprive one of the right to buy a gun, since people are placed on the list arbitrarily by the security bureaucracy and without judicial review or the possibility of appeal. Apparently just visiting certain Internet websites is one of the things that can get you placed on the no-fly list. Nobody knows what those web-sites are. Leftists accept the idea of due process of law and frequently take advantage of it, except when it suits them to deprive their enemies of their liberties, property and lives. We know by now that the Left’s endgame in the gun control legislation scheme they propose is to disarm the general populace and then leave them undefended against the criminal element in the country. The Left does not bargain in good faith, so no new gun laws! Enforce the laws that are already on the books. Criminal control not gun control. A better plan would be a “no buy list”, putting the names of all convicted felons and those adjudicated with mental illness on a national data base, updated continually, alerting dealers that these individuals should not be sold a gun. However since this would target criminals and those determined to be dangerously mentally ill rather than hassle law-abiding citizens attempting to buy a gun, the Left would undoubtedly oppose such a proposal.

"I'm not going to be made into a villain," said Ed Henson of the St. Lucie Shooting Center.
The Florida gun dealer who sold a handgun and a rifle to the Orlando massacre suspect said Monday that his conscience is clear.
"It's horrible but I don't make the laws. I abide by them," Ed Henson of the St. Lucie Shooting Center, a range and gun shop in Port Saint Lucie, not far from where nightclub shooter Omar Mateen said.
"My heartfelt condolences for the family and victims and I can't imagine the horror they face," Henson, a former NYPD police officer, added. "I did everything by the book. I'm not going to be made into a villain."
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms confirmed on Sunday evening that Mateen was carrying a .223 caliber AR-type rifle and a 9mm semiautomatic pistol when he opened fire at the Pulse club, killing 49 and injuring more than 50.
Authorities said both were bought legally. Henson said Mateen passed a background check.
ATF agents showed up at the St. Lucie Shooting Center after the tragedy and were still there Monday afternoon.
"We've been cooperating with them and other law enforcement agencies," Henson said. "We did nothing wrong."
