"The main obstacle to a stable and just world order is the United States,"George Soros, The Age of Fallibility: Consequences of the War on Terror.
General Odierno fails to appreciate that in the minds of the "facultylounge" Leftists radicals who now run our country it is the Americanmilitary that is the real threat to peace in the world. So of course theU.S. Army will continue to shrink, regardless of what is going on in theworld. As a practical matter America has lost the political will to win awar since Political Correctness dictates that America's interests must neverbe placed first. Therefore it scarcely matters how big an Army the countrymaintains.
"The problem is ... the world is changing in front of us," Odierno saidduring a military conference in Washington, D.C. "We've seen Russianaggression in Eastern Europe, we've seen ISIS, we've seen some increasedinstability in other places, so I now have a concern whether even goingbelow 490,000 [soldiers] is the right thing to do."
The active-duty Army, which has more than half a million soldiers today, ison pace to shrink to between 440,000 soldiers and 450,000 soldiers by 2017.That figure could fall to as low as 420,000 soldiers if automatic budgetcuts known as sequestration remain in effect.
"My thought is it should all be on the table as we look at the securityenvironment," Odierno said during a briefing with reporters during theopening day of the annual conference organized by the Association of theUnited States Army.
