Inside the Ring: For the first time, Russia has more deployed nuclear warheads than U.S.

The warhead count for the Russians, based the Sept. 1 report required underthe 2010 New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START), shows an increase of131 warheads since the last declaration on March 1. The U.S. reported awarhead increase of 57 during the same period. It is not clear why thewarhead numbers increased.
The treaty limits each side to 1,550 deployed warheads, 700 deployedmissiles and bombers and 800 deployed and non-deployed launchers.
