That IS a good question, since both believe in Marxist socialist redistribution of wealth. However , the difference in practical terms is that the Democrat Party practices “third way” socialism, otherwise known as “Crony Capitalism”, as originated by Mussolini (AKA Fascist Corporatism). That is where the party/government partners with the super rich, the mega corporations, to secure their support and generous donations and in return the government helps eliminate their competition through restrictive and punishing regulation. So while the government doesn’t control the means of production, as in regular socialism, the government DOES pick what businesses will be allowed to operate and succeed and essentially centrally plans the economy the same as in regular Marxist socialism. This is probably why socialist Bernie Sanders stands no real chance of getting the Democrat Party nomination for President in spite of his growing popularity with the Democrat Party’s radical Leftist base, because the Democrat National Council will not want to alienate their super wealthy Wall Street donors.
