California of the Dark Ages

https://pajamasmed.hs.llnwd.net/e1/victordavishanson/user-content/2/files/2016/01/two_californias_banner_1-31-16-1.sized-770x415xc.jpg

21st century California is no place for the middle class.

I recently took a few road trips longitudinally and latitudinally across California. The state bears little to no resemblance to what I was born into. In a word, it is now a medieval place of lords and peasants—and few in between. Or rather, as I gazed out on the California Aqueduct, the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Luis Reservoir, I realized we are like the hapless, squatter Greeks of the Dark Ages, who could not figure out who those mythical Mycenaean lords were that built huge projects still standing in their midst, long after Lord Ajax and King Odysseus disappeared into exaggeration and myth. Henry Huntington built the entire Big Creek Hydroelectric Project in the time it took our generation to go to three hearings on a proposed dam.
For all practical purposes, there are no more viable 40-acre to 150-acre family farms. You can sense their absence in a variety of subtle ways. Tractors are much bigger, because smaller plots are now combined into latifundia, and rows of trees and vines become longer. Rural houses are now homes to farm managers and renters, not farms families. One never sees families pruning or tying vines together as was common in the 1960s. I haven’t seen an owner of a farm on a tractor in over a decade.
Several developments have accelerated rapid change in the state. The long agricultural depression at the turn of the century—years of unprofitable prices for tree, vine and row crops—gave way about a decade ago to a sudden farm bonanza, especially in nut tree prices. The result was that once unprofitable land that had bankrupted the old agrarian class was absorbed by larger concerns and went through the costly process of transforming into pistachio, walnut, and almond acreages. Land prices in central California suddenly went from $5,000 an acre to $30,000 and up. Sometimes I’d like to remind the ghosts of those who went broke that the land they sold off for nothing is now quite something.
When I was in high school there was about 100,000 acres of almonds (selling at less than $1 a pound); now there are almost a million acres (at over $3 a pound). Production per acre tripled. Nuts unlike stone fruit are almost completely mechanized; so farm labor jobs are disappearing. The engine that drives illegal immigration is certainly no longer agriculture, but hotels, restaurants, construction, landscaping—and public assistance. The United Farm Workers is virtually defunct largely because there are ever fewer farmworkers. When it tries one of its ossified strikes, growers simply pull out any crops that require hand labor.
The drought accelerated these trends. Rural farmhouses that were rented out to the impoverished are often boarded up. In some places the water table dropped 50-100 feet and it apparently made no sense to drill new $40,000 domestic wells for $600 a month in rental income. Roman authors wrote of these transitions from an agrarian patchwork to an empty countryside of huge and, ironically or rather predictably, more efficient agribusiness.
Drip irrigation was said to be the new smart way of farming, given its economy in water usage. But was it in the long run? Under the ancient system of surface irrigation—refined in the 1970s and 1980s by the laser-leveling of fields—water quickly flowed to the end of the row and was shut off, often at night when transpiration was minimal.
Note the economy of the old system: there was little costly pumping from the aquifer. Sierra and Northern California water was gravity-fed into canals and on into orchard and vineyards. What water that was not absorbed by the crop replenished the water table, which stayed mostly constant, given the lack of pumping.
No so with the advent of drip irrigation (few farmers filter surface water to pump through their systems). Instead, pumping ground water through drip hoses became a 24/7 operation. What trickled out of the drip lines was either used by the plant or evaporated. Almost no drip water, as in the past with surface irrigation, was recycled back into the aquifer. I rarely see a man with a shovel walking the vineyards anymore. Expect more water crises in the future, given that pumping the aquifer is the new farming, in dry or wet years.
Illegal Immigration also Changed the Nature of California
The old measured migrations from Mexico did not tax the system. The American host was confident in helping the immigrant learn a new culture (or why else had he left his own in Mexico?), and so was not shy about assimilating and integrating newcomers. Not now.
Huge numbers, illegality, and the far greater presence of ingenious peoples meant there were more immigrants, more who were poorer and more who did not speak English or even Spanish as their native language—at a time when the salad bowl and hyphenation replaced the melting pot. The result is that there are large areas of Central California that resemble life in rural Mexico. Within a radius of five miles I can go to stores and restaurants where English is rarely spoken and there is no racial or cultural diversity—a far cry from Jeb Bush’s notion of an “act of love” landscape.
With unemployment at 10% or more in the interior of the state, with the public schools near the bottom in the nation, and with generous entitlements, it is no accident that one in six in the nation who receive public assistance now live in California, where about a fifth of the population lives below the poverty line.
One in four Californians also were not born in the United States; more than one in four who enter the hospital for any cause are found upon admittance to suffer from Type II diabetes. The unspoken responsibility of California state government is to bring state-sponsored parity to new arrivals from Oaxaca, and to do so in ideological fashion that ensures open borders and more government. It is the work of a sort of secular church, and questioning its premises is career-ending blasphemy.
When over $150 billion go to Medi-Cal and related subsidized health care—albeit much of the sum paid for by the federal government—it is understandable why the state’s starved roads are rated about dead last in the nation. I drove home today from San Francisco. The 101 northbound was at a crawl. At Gilroy, the 101 southbound was shut completely down due to the customary big rig crash. I took an hour detour. I-5 is unchanged since I was a teen and approaching the nightmare of the 99. Is the idea to freeze the highways of a state of 40 million at the level they were when we were 20 million—perhaps either to lessen our “carbon footprints” or to force acceptance of high-speed rail? I approach driving across California the way I do flying—expect that anything at anytime, anywhere will happen. Again, beneath the havoc you can glimpse the genius of our Mycenaean ancestors who designed a brilliant transportation system—for 15-20 million citizens.
A final twist was the infusion of a trillion dollars of capital into a few hands in the relatively small environs of the Silicon Valley. The tech boom, in connection with the mass influx of illegal immigrants into central California, sent coastal-corridor real estate into the stratosphere, from La Jolla and Monterey to Napa and Sonoma. California was redefined as coastal California—and the “rest.” A Californian is rich if he lives in a hovel in Menlo Park and poor if he lives in a castle in Stockton or Madera.
Stranger still, the infusion of hundreds of billions of global tech capital created a new, politically active, multimillionaire elite, completely insulated from the consequences of their own therapeutic ideologies. The reason why California’s gas and electricity prices are among the highest in the nation, why its income, sales and gas taxes are likewise among the steepest, and why the price of housing per square foot soars over $1,000 while nearby tens of thousands of acres of open ground sit sacrosanct—essential open viewing space for those who can afford $1.5 million, 1,500 sq. feet 1970s houses—is this new rich elite.
California is No Place for the Middle Class
Easy money translated into a utopian view of living. Higher taxes were a small price to pay for the psychological reassurance that a millionaire was still liberal. Professions of abstract progressive piety make guilt-free grasping materialism possible. I suppose if you make $800,000, having your legislature outlaw dogs chasing bears and bobcats instead of building a reservoir makes you feel as if you make $80,000.
California is no place for the middle class. It lacks the tastes of the new wealthy and the romance of the distant poor, and clings to the pretensions that families of five and six should enjoy good schools, still be able to buy a house, and pop into the SUV on Sunday for an easy drive to the beach or mountains.
I drove home from Stanford after walking down University Avenue, ground zero of the Stanford-Silicon nexus. A strange, wheeled contraption with a screen followed me down the sidewalk, asking me questions with the image of its human operator in a store nearby. Five hours and 170 miles later, I pulled into the old farmhouse, mostly unchanged since 1880—but first passing the compound of my neighbor and his cobbled together corral of sheep, goats, chickens, and geese, three broken trailer apartments, a Winnebago on blocks duplex, and a half-dozen wrecked cars amid a flock of unleashed pit bulls. The swat team swarmed another neighbor’s “enterprises” last week, but that is another story altogether.
In California, the postmodern and the premodern are but a few miles apart.

Austrian Government Will Pay Migrants €500 Each To Go Home, Wants Citizen Militia to Patrol Border

http://media.breitbart.com/media/2016/01/GettyImages-495090372.jpg

Migrants who find Europe not to be the land of milk and honey they expected will be able to receive repatriation assistance from the Austrian government from this year.

The development is part of a package of changes which the government in Vienna hopes will help them hit a new target of 50,00 migrants leaving the country by 2019.
While the announcment has been reported sensationally as 50,000 deportations, it seems many of the newly arrived migrants will go voluntarily, with a  bumper load of government pocket money to see them on their way. The full €500 will only be available if the migrant makes the decision to go quickly, and before the government rules on their asylum case. The government will also place adverts in media in migrant-origin countires and on social media in migrant languages telling them to stay at home, reports Kronen Zeitung.
The rising pace of removals is a step-change for Austria, but not an entirely new policy.
Interior minister  Johanna Mikl-Leitner said Austria already had one of the highest levels for deportations in Europe, but “we will further increase out success rate”. Austria deported 8,365 in 2015, a number that will rise to 12,500 in 2016 to meet the obligations by the plan.
Re-assessing the global security picture, Austria will also be expanding their list of safe countries to which they can easily send back migrants, and from where no asylum applications will now be accepted. Inidividuals from Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Georgia, Mongolai and Ghana, will from now on have to seek asylum elsewhere, or go home — Austria will not accept their claims.
The agreement on the new plan has been reached between the interior ministry, foreign ministry, and defence ministry who will be flying many migrants home in military aircraft. There are also questions being raised over the future involvement of the Austrian army in border patrols, reports OE24, which quotes minister Hanspeter Doskozil who raises the prospect not only of putting soldiers on the borders, but of raising citizens militias to patrol.
On the urgent need to raise volunteer groups to patrol the border to make up for the over-stretched army, Mr. said: “We now need to prepare as soon as possible. Time is running out”.
Austria is not the first country to offer repatriation assistance to unwanted migrants. It was Conservative party policy in the United Kingdom in the 1970s, and Norway presently offers a similar programme. Migrants who find the frozen north of Europe to be not to their taste can apply for a government grant to get them home again. Worth $10,000 per family, plus free plane tickets, the Norwegian government calculates paying migrants to go away is cheaper in the long run than keeping them on benefits and other social support packages.

Did Hillary just offer Obama a bribe in front of the entire world?

Clinton campaign events are known for being highly scripted and at least some questions from Hillary’s audiences most certainly are plants, providing the candidate a setup to respond in such a way as to make her look like a really nice, downhome person or really on top of a particular subject. Such was the situation recently when a questioner at a Hillary Q&A seemingly admitted that he had been given his softball question for the frontrunner about which former president she most admired. Such situations are not new for Hillary with charges of planted questions arising in all of her past and current campaigns.
With that in mind, one has to be very suspicious of the recent question asked of Hillary about whether she would consider appointing Obama to the Supreme Court if she becomes president. We all know Hillary is a less than skilled public speaker so the feigned surprise she shows at the question and her prepared response are far from genuine:
"Wow, what a great idea. No one has ever suggested that to me, I love that, wow. He may have a few other things to do but I tell you that's a great idea."
Sorry, Hill, while your acting skills just aren’t up to carrying that off as being a spontaneous occurrence, that’s only part of the problem because I’m sure I wasn’t the only American watching that arranged exchange whose initial response was, “Whoa, did I just hear the Democrat frontrunner for president float a bribe to the sitting Democrat President of the United States right in front of the entire world?” Anyone watching could see the unspoken implication was, “Hey, Barack, make sure no indictment prevents my election and one of the most coveted, lifetime positions in the world can be yours when your presidential term is over, wink, wink.”
While that, folks, was even less subtle than dragging a hundred dollar bill through a trailer park, you do have to admire the way it was set up so as to shield Clinton from any political charge of attempted bribery or obstruction of justice by her opponents. Unsurprisingly it comes on the heels of Hillary’s recent proclivity to gushingly praise the Obama presidency whereas earlier she’d done everything possible to distance herself from that failed administration. Pundits mull that changing position as being an attempt to stay ahead of her uber-liberal opponent, Bernie Sanders. Cynics like me see it as a naked attempt to stay ahead of an obviously justified indictment from the Obama Justice Department. Whether or not that indictment ultimately happens while Obama is in office is clearly freighted with such enormous political weight that crudely dangled bribes for a cushy sinecure aren’t likely to affect it.
Besides, Hillary, Supreme Court Justices probably don’t get enough time on the links to appeal to Barack Obama; plus they are based in Washington, D.C. not Oahu. Nice try though; at least we know you Clinton’s are still dragging those hundred dollar bills, so to speak.

Blog: Bernie Sanders before political office

http://www.americanthinker.com/assets/images/at-painter-og-image.png

Like Churchill said socialism is the politics of envy…Bernie Sanders is a living example.

Before he achieved political office, Bernie Sanders never had a steady paycheck in the first four decades of his life. Now, he aspires to the highest office in the land where he could play a decisive role in shaping the circumstances under which the rest of us work and receive (when we can) our paychecks.  It is a sobering record, as Investor’s Business Daily explains it:
His family managed to send him to the University of Chicago. Despite a prestigious degree, however, Sanders failed to earn a living, even as an adult. It took him 40 years to collect his first steady paycheck — and it was a government check.
“I never had any money my entire life,” Sanders told Vermont public TV in 1985, after settling into his first real job as mayor of Burlington.
Sanders spent most of his life as an angry radical and agitator who never accomplished much of anything. And yet now he thinks he deserves the power to run your life and your finances — “We will raise taxes;” he confirmed Monday, “yes, we will.”
One of his first jobs was registering people for food stamps, and it was all downhill from there.
Sanders took his first bride to live in a maple sugar shack with a dirt floor, and she soon left him. Penniless, he went on unemployment. Then he had a child out of wedlock. Desperate, he tried carpentry but could barely sink a nail. “He was a shi**y carpenter,” a friend told Politico Magazine. “His carpentry was not going to support him, and didn’t.”
Then he tried his hand freelancing for leftist rags, writing about “masturbation and rape” and other crudities for $50 a story. He drove around in a rusted-out, Bondo-covered VW bug with no working windshield wipers. Friends said he was “always poor” and his “electricity was turned off a lot.” They described him as a slob who kept a messy apartment — and this is what his friends had to say about him.
The only thing he was good at was talking … non-stop … about socialism and how the rich were ripping everybody off. “The whole quality of life in America is based on greed,” the bitter layabout said. “I believe in the redistribution of wealth in this nation.”
So he tried politics, starting his own socialist party. Four times he ran for Vermont public office, and four times he lost — badly. He never attracted more than single-digit support — even in the People’s Republic of Vermont. In his 1971 bid for U.S. Senate, the local press said the 30-year-old “Sanders describes himself as a carpenter who has worked with ‘disturbed children.’ ” In other words, a real winner.
He finally wormed his way into the Senate in 2006, where he still ranks as one of the poorest members of Congress. Save for a municipal pension, Sanders lists no assets in his name.
Well, at least he hasn’t pulled a Clinton and enriched himself via influence-peddling. But it is quite clear that envy is a deep part of his psychology. That has become the source of focus in his life, something that obviously was lacking until he got into politics.
Can a man who was unable to earn a decent living, unable to keep himself in orderly environment, without political office really be the chief executive of the United States Government?

Soros donated ... HOW MUCH to HILLARY?

For a Hungarian who seems to hate American values, billionaire George Soros sure spends a lot of time here — and a lot of money on politicians with a far-left bent.

Soros donated $6-billion to a Super PAC supporting Hillary Clinton.

Another foreigner heavily invested in Hillary is Egyptian-born billionaire Haim Saban. Saban reportedly contributed $5-billion to the PAC.

Both billionaires are American citizens who hold duel citizenship.

Billionaire George Soros contributed $6 million to a super-PAC supporting Hillary Clinton last month, according to the committee's latest financial statement.

The investor has now contributed a total of $7 million in this election cycle to Priorities USA Action, which raised $41 million on behalf of Clinton in 2015.

In the last 6 months, the super-PAC raised $25.3 million, meaning that Soros's contribution accounted for almost a quarter of its fundraising haul.

Also making large contributions to the committee in 2015 were media mogul Haim Saban and his wife Cheryl, who gave a total of $5 million, philanthropist Laure Woods, who gave $2.3 million, and investor Donald Sussman, who contributed $2.5 million.

This group, along with Soros, accounted for two-fifths of Priorities total fundraising in 2015.

Nice to see the good guys win one once a while.

You know me. I'm opposed to violence of any kind for any reason other than self defense.

So this is not a suggestion; I'm just wondering . . .

What would happen if German male patriots wore long coats, scarves, and carried purses loaded with bricks while they patrolled German streets at night.

Again, I'm not making a suggestion; just wondering aloud

Florida Woman Found Dead In Motel With Two Caged Monkeys

https://timedotcom.files.wordpress.com/2016/01/12645064_1680610475561652_421480615615271374_n.jpg?quality=75&strip=color&w=960

The monkeys invoked their right to scream and throw feces.

An "incoherent" man was also found in the room

A Florida woman was found dead on Friday in a motel room with two caged monkeys and a note, authorities said.
Police said they found Linda Marie Smith, 59, of Arcadia, in a room at the Budget Inn in North Port, Fla. on Friday. An “incoherent” man, whose name has not yet been released, was also in the room and is being questioned by authorities.
It’s unclear what was written in the note. There were also no obvious signs of trauma to Smith’s body, North Port police said, and the cause of death is under investigation.

The White Death and the Black Death

https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/vdare-live/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/31122334/murdermap.jpg

I coined the term “the White Death” to refer to the rise in death rates among non-elderly whites during this century. It appears to be related to overdoses from prescription painkillers and heroin. Nobody paid much, if any, attention to it until economist Angus Deaton put out a paper on it last fall right after he won the econ (quasi-)Nobel.
“The Black Death” can refer to the >16 percent rise in homicide rates in big cities in 2015 over 2014. Nobody has crunched the numbers by race yet, but most of this appears to be a spike in black-on-black murders. This is likely related in some manner to Black Lives Matter agitation against law and order.

World Health Org: 1 in 3 Somalis is insane

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQNRa5VAMHv1Hx1OzAaP9KacLuVAjHLBX6E9NjVA3UroZuK3frMAZTafc0fGmfQeVQQpu6mFar7DVc57f-ZTeLnExjSEE8dM2Io4y4lKM48GGWcT8Sh9POLd_AzZ2L3kWPy0q3fsgfrRde/s320/a.jpg

This is the WHO,  a UN agency, that is saying it! The UN bureaucracy  is dominated by America hating Leftists, so the problem is no doubt even worse then the WHO is willing to admit. No wonder they’re so anxious to import Somalis into the USA. It’s part of the big transformation of the country.  The Leftist SJWs hate every thing that is normal and stable. Especially small town white America. The idea of bewildered small town white people having to deal with mentally ill  Somalis according to PC stricture each and every day probably fills the Lefty SJWs with glee.

In 2013 FrontPageMag published a revealing story that the regressive left would prefer you not read.

According to the story, The World Health Organization reported that one of three Somalis is insane.

To underscore the extent of the problem, the article noted that "In Somalia there’s a belief that a mentally ill person can be cured by shutting them [sic] in a room with a hyena."

THANKS, JOE: Georgia Man follows Biden's Shotgun Advice, Gets Arrested

http://cdn.bearingarms.com/uploads/2016/01/joe-biden.jpg

That’s the crazy thing about the law. In most of the USA, if you fire a warning shot you are at risk of being charged with assault or reckless conduct of some sort. The feeling in contemporary jurisprudence being that the bullets have to land somewhere, therefore you are endangering others by firing shots at random without a justified target. If the situation justifies firing a shot at all toward an assailant then it generally must justify shooting to kill. Presumably because you reasonably perceive that you are in danger of being killed or suffering grievous bodily harm of some sort if you do not immediately act to halt the assailant’s attack or threat of attack. Of course this is in contradiction to what we have all been brought up to believe. We have all watched countless movie and TV dramas where a protagonist fires a shot into the air or at the ground to scare off or intimidate a villain. Regardless, that is not what the law allows nowadays. Experts in law and gun-fighting like Massad Ayoob advise that, given the current state of the law, the situations where firing a warning shot would be justified and/or advisable are really very few.  That is why Old Joe’s advice is so ruinously bad. You risk going to jail if you take it. Unless you can get the courts to give you a pass because you were following the advice of the Vice President, who happens to be a lawyer himself.

Christopher Isaiah Cloer of Dalton Georgia fired "two blasts" when men came to his home harassing his sister, and now he's the one in jail.

In February of 2013, Vice President Joe Biden infamously told a woman named Kate to fire “two blasts” from a 12-gauge shotgun to scare away intruders.
A 29-year-old man in Dalton, Georgia Christopher Isaiah Cloer, applied the Vice President’s advice, and is now facing charges of aggravated assault.
A Dalton man told investigators he was just trying to protect a family member from a stalker when he fired a shotgun blast into the air and then another at the ground near the tailgate of a pickup truck. The man who was the target of the warning shots said he was just trying to go see his girlfriend.
Christopher Isaiah Cloer, 29, of 209 Trade Way, was arrested on Monday and charged with aggravated assault for firing the shots.
According to a report filed with the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred early in the morning of Jan. 9.
It started with a man and his buddy coming back from a bar in Chattanooga in the buddy’s pickup truck. The passenger was texting a woman he told deputies was his girlfriend. The female texted her address to the man and told him to come on over. But as they were driving to the address, the passenger called the woman’s phone and a male answered. The men argued, and the man who answered the phone told them not to come to the girl’s house and hung up.
The passenger then got a text from the woman’s phone saying to not come to the house followed by an expletive-filled, threatening text basically telling him to stay away. The passenger told a sheriff’s deputy he thought the guy had taken his girlfriend as a hostage.
When the cops asked the man why he continued to the address after being told not to go there, he said he didn’t think anyone would be hostile when he got there…
So, Cletus and Bubba show up where they aren’t wanted after being told to stay away and no uncertain terms, and Mr. Cloer roughly follows Vice Presidents televised advise to fire “two blasts.”
Unfortunately for Mr. Cloer, the Vice President’s advice is likely to end up in assault charges in the vast majority of these United States, as firing a shotgun or any other firearm—even as an alleged warning—is the unwarranted discharge of deadly weapon.
Be smart.
Don’t be a Biden.

The most surprising things about Australia, according to an Indian international student

http://edge.alluremedia.com.au/uploads/businessinsider/2014/04/SHIVA-3-640x360.jpg

Same in Australia, Leftists hate their own people.

The most surprising things about Australia, according to an Indian international student

It will be a bitter pill for Leftists, but this guy finds Australia not racist at all.  From reports in the Indian press, which were mainly recycled Australian journalism, he had expected a lot of racism.  And it is no mystery why. A couple of years ago there were a lot of reports of Indians in Australia being attacked.  What the reports covered up was that almost all of the attacks were by Africans.  Australians as a whole were disgraced  in the name of political correctness.  For their own safety, Indians should simply have been told to avoid Africans
-John J. Ray, MA PhD, Brisbane, AU – Dissecting Leftism- Blogspot

Hailing from Chennai in southern India, he has studied in India, Canada for three years and has been studying in Australia for almost a year.

Here’s what has surprised him most about Australia since he moved here.

Australians aren’t racist, they’re friendly.

Reports of racism and assaults on Indian students have made their way back to India, Shiva said when his family and friends found out he was coming to Australia they warned him about the violence.

However, Shiva said his experience has been the exact opposite: "People are very friendly".

"I was given lots of advice from India that you are going to Australia just make sure that you’re not being attacked or be a victim of racism," he said.  "I don’t find any of that type of nonsense here, people are really friendly."

Shiva said he hasn’t been a victim of racism and it really depends on the company you keep.  "It depends on the friends that you make and the places you visit," he said.

Australian girls are really friendly.

"Australian girls are really, really fun, they crack lots of jokes… even when you’re meeting for the first time," he said.

"In India, there’s a barrier when you’re talking from a girl. If you’re hailing from a very orthodox family you are not supposed to talk to a girl."

But Shiva said that is starting to change as India becomes increasingly westernised.

"People are coming out of those barriers," he said.

"For me while I was studying at college in India I faced that barrier. I was unable to talk to a girl so freely as I am talking to you and other people in Canada and Australia."

Working part-time in Australia pays good money.

While Shiva’s current study timetable means he cannot work at the moment, he has had a couple of part time jobs and was surprised how good the pay was.

"I’ve tried a lot of jobs, I’ve been a personal assistant to a top executive," he said.

"They pay me really good money like $28 to $32 per hour.

"I was really surprised because when I compared the market with the US and Canada I think Australia has better compensation and it’s really understandable because living in Australia is surging everyday, it’s really tough to keep up with the cost of living in Australia.

The beaches are extraordinary.

Taking a trip to an Australian beach was one of Shiva’s most memorable experiences.

"I’ve been to the Northern Beaches [of Sydney] and they’re really, really nice," he said.

"They’re really beautiful, I was totally crying when I was standing inside the lake walking literally to the middle of the lake and it’s not deep.

"The beaches are clean, compared to India where the beaches are not clean."

It’s surprisingly different to Canada.

Shiva thought Australia would be similar to Canada, when he arrived he was surprised it was very different.

"It’s more international, Canada is more like white people, there’s more Americans and Canadians but here in Australia the first thing I noticed is it’s very diverse in culture. You have loads of Chinese people, you have loads of Indians, lots of German people, French people, and everyone else, it’s all over the place," he said.

"In India you have different cultures but from the same country. Australia has more international cultures."

Being vegetarian means something else.

Shiva describes himself as a "pure vegetarian", what he means is according to Indian standards he’s a vegetarian but in Australia his eating habits are actually vegan.

He was also surprised by how much bread Australians eat and how breakfast is very different in Australia, "people eat a traditional breakfast whereas Indians we prefer a warm Indian breakfast. It took some time for me to get used to that".

All the differences and Australia’s high cost of living means Shiva now cooks for himself a lot more.

"I’m an excellent cook, he said. "I don’t need to find a girl."

Everyone shortens everything.

Shiva’s full name is Shivaramakrishnan Ramamoorthy, but he says it’s easier to shorten his name to Shiva in Australia.

"People would raise their eyebrows and have no idea what I was talking about but that’s my name!" he said.

"I kept my preferred name as Shiva, even on Facebook, so people don’t get afraid of my name.

"But they still shorten my name…[Australians] they shorten everything, they shorten it further. I usually say to people ‘Hi my name is Shiva but you can call me SRK or Shiv’."

It’s far less crowded than home.

Shiva estimates the population of his home town in India is roughly the same population as Sydney.

He’s not far off either but the big difference is the population of Sydney is spread out over an area which is about 67 times larger than Chennai.

"In India everything is crowded, you can’t even find a space to park your car or your to wheeler, your bike."

Aussies are afraid of spiders and cockroaches.

Back in India Shiva said he "used to play with them". "People are so afraid of spiders [in Australia]. I’ve even heard about people dying from spiders, if I say that to my parents they will laugh at me."

"I’ve seen people going crazy… it’s just a cockroach, it just goes by," he said.

There’s less respect for elders.

Australian Shiva is very different to Indian Shiva, he said when he returns home it takes four or five days to settle back into the customs and expectations of his home country.

"When I’m in Sydney it’s a completely different Shiva that you will see," he said.

"In Chennai you need to be more respectable to your parents, over here people really don’t care who the hell you are.

"If I say ‘mum I like this girl I want to marry her’ she will probably say ‘I don’t like that girl’… the culture is more parent dominating rather than giving freedom to the children.

"Over here I find that completely different it’s up to the choices of people."

It’s easier to get a visa in Australia compared to Canada or the US.

Shiva said he’s found it much easier to get a student visa in Australia. He began trying to come to Australia after his visa application was rejected in Canada in the US.

Studying in Australia is relaxing.

Shiva said he’s "more relaxed studying in Australia" compared to India, where he found the courses more intensive.

"Over here [in Australia] they say intensive courses but for me it’s like a piece of cake," he said.

Professors are approachable.

"The professors here are much more friendly," Shiva said. "In India if I even had to speak to a lecturer or a principal it takes lots of respect and effort to meet them."

Shiva said if he did manage to meet his lecturers in India they would dismiss him saying "what’s going on you’re a student just focus on your studies" whereas in Australia he said "they’re welcoming that approach from students, they’re really encouraging students to perform well, they’re really supportive here".

He said it comes back to the culture of having to "respect your elders".

The changes in political leaders are really confusing

Shiva said he doesn’t like politics in Australia and has trouble understanding how it all works.  "Yesterday it was Julia Gillard and tomorrow morning it was Tony Abbott, I don’t know what the hell was going on," he said.

Shiva’s next adventure is to Norway in December.

Report: Store Inventory Levels Reduced Nationwide: “Stock Up Now While You Can!”

http://shtfplan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/inventory-collapse2.jpg

What’s going on? It could be that the Big Box retail stores are reducing their inventory because sales are decreasing and the retailers don’t want to risk having too much money tied up in inventory if sales should plummet even more. Most of the  big box discount stores keep their prices low precisely by NOT having too much money tied up in inventory and using so-called “just in time” stocking. Its obvious that people don’t have the disposable income they had prior to October 2008. The U.S. economy never really recovered from the 2008-09 recession. Most things keep going up in price, particularly health insurance thanks to Obamacare. Things have been arranged to get worse once President Obama leaves office. Anyway deliberate reductions in inventory will mean that the shelves in the stores will get swept bare even faster should there be any panic buying.

They have drastically/intentionally reduced their inventory levels…

The Real Reason Minimum Wage Must Be Raised To $15 An Hour

Funny! Yes the reason for the open borders mass immigration policy is because big business wants cheap labor and the Left wants more new Democrat voters. Unfortunately even “automation” probably won’t stop mass immigration, because the Left is determined to “transform” the country.

Mobs of 'hundreds' of masked men rampage through Stockholm station

So the “backlash” has finally come. One wonders what took so long, given that the Swedish Government flat out surrendered to the migrant criminals and let do as they pleased with the Swedish people. It’s clear that the Leftists who run the government hate their own people and can’t be relied on to protect them.

A mob of black-clad masked men went on a rampage in and around Stockholm's main train station last night targeting refugees. At least three people were beaten up, according to witnesses.

When 'Going Nuclear' Isn't an Option

http://assets.patriotpost.us/images/2016-01-29-6f9acaff.jpg

The fact is the country is broke and can no longer afford to maintain its military forces, be they nuclear or conventional. All the counties that relied on the protection of the U.S. nuclear umbrella are going to be on their own.

U.S. nuclear deterrent capability is rapidly waning, with no remedy in sight.
One of the ultimate underwriters of U.S. global power and national security is the capability of its nuclear arsenal. Rogue states, nations that sponsor terrorism as a matter of policy, and openly belligerent countries are all held in check by the threat of America’s nuclear power, which holds the definitive answer to such nations' use of weapons of mass destruction (WMD). As most international arms experts concur, without this worldwide deterrent against states large enough to back large-scale terrorist organizations, these organizations' use of WMD would be substantially more likely and considerably less restrained. Given this, we’d like to think our federal government would be first in line to safeguard and maintain this arsenal. But we would be wrong.
We recently learned from a top Obama administration official that U.S. nuclear deterrent capability is rapidly waning, with no remedy in sight. In a letter not released to the public, U.S. Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz asked White House budget director Shaun Donovan to revise the fiscal 2017 budget proposal, effectively implying that the nation’s nuclear capabilities were at stake as a result of a projected $5.2 billion shortfall, which as yet has not properly been addressed in the budget. Even Moniz, normally a reliable shill for the administration, has recognized the critical importance of the shortfall.
In the arcane language of government financial programming, this problem is known as “broken glass”: a program that is “unexecutable” — i.e., dead — without additional funding. In this case, that’s a lot of glass. Some of the critical infrastructure Moniz references in his missive includes the roughly half of all nuclear facilities that are approaching half-century-old milestones, as well as the geriatric strategic computer systems that bear directly on the efficacy and reliability of America’s nuclear arsenal.
Of course, there’s also the fact of the aging ballistic sub fleet; the more-than-half-century-old B-52 fleet; the halting of new warhead design, construction and testing by the administration’s peace-at-all-costs arms-control wonks; and a host of other “minor” issues associated with U.S. nuclear surety, but we don’t want to haggle over a few billion dollars' worth of restoration to critical national defense. We’ll simply note in passing that all of them have been ignored for the better part of a decade, and we’ll leave it at that.
Apart from the criminally negligent abandonment associated with the commander in chief’s most important job — namely, protecting the nation — are the outright lies. Recall in the 2010 “New” Start Treaty with Russia, His Worldpeacedness secured Senate ratification to a 30% cut in warheads only after the Senate made him promise to modernize existing warheads and facilities. Setting aside the foolhardiness of relying on an unsecured future promise from anyone in the Obama administration — let alone from the head of the rotting fish itself — not only did Obama break his word to the Senate, but he has also accelerated the decline of the very warheads and facilities he promised to modernize.
As evidence, witness the testimony of Obama’s former secretary of defense, Bob Gates, who last fall told Congress that Obama’s “political aspiration” is “to get rid of nuclear weapons.” Obama hasn’t changed much since he was a dope-smoking young peacenik. As a result, then-Secretary Gates was unable even to “[try] to make the ones that we already have more reliable and safer.”
Notwithstanding the current crisis, the bigger question is, who, if anyone, will fix it? With “The Donald” not even knowing what the “nuclear triad” is — forgivable for a layman, but a presidential candidate? — and Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders unwilling to preserve the remainder of that triad, we have little reason for optimism. And what if, in the dead of some otherwise calm night, an “unscheduled sunrise” suddenly appears over an American city in the not-too-distant future? Then all bets are off. What will we respond with then?

Just how old do you think these migrant 'children' are?

The word has spread about how easy it is to be accepted as a child migrant in Sweden, which has become overwhelmed with ‘unaccompanied minors’ in what critics suspect is a huge fraud.

Just how old do you think these migrant 'children' are? Alarming pictures of refugees - including 'the fastest 14-year-old in Sweden' - that shed light on a growing scandal amid Europe's asylum crisis

  • Ahmad Farid claimed to be 16 but appears to have hair on his chin
  • Saad Alsaud is reported to have been the fastest 14-year-old in Sweden
  • Youssaf Khaliif Nuur claims he is 15, but he is 6ft tall and is said to shave

UK commits suicide: Muslims with multiple wives to get extra welfare benefits

https://fellowshipofminds.files.wordpress.com/2014/10/muslim-wedding-photo.jpg?w=500

by Dr. Eowyn |
Polygamy is illegal in the United Kingdom under Section 57 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861.
But the UK recognizes polygamy if the marriages were in countries where they are legal, i.e., Islamic countries. That means the UK recognizes the polygamous marriages of Muslim immigrants.
And so in 2008, the Blair government gave the go-ahead for husbands with multiple wives to claim extra welfare benefits, so long as the weddings had taken place in countries where polygamy is legal.
As if that isn’t bad enough, a new UK welfare reform will further reward polygamous Muslims with even more welfare benefits
The reform is called Universal Credit, a well-intended effort to reform the UK’s broken welfare system where:
  • More than one in four working-age adults in the UK does not work.
  • Some 2.6 million people spent at least 5 years on some form of out-of-work benefit.
  • A fifth of families with children are in poverty at any one time.
Under the new welfare system, additional spouses of polygamous relationships will no longer be recognized. Alas, that new policy has an unintended consequence of actually giving polygamous Muslims even more welfare benefits because those additional wives now can claim welfare as single persons.
Simon Kent reports for Breitbart, Jan. 24, 2016, that at present, a polygamous husband and his first wife receive up to £114.85 in “income support,” while each additional wife receives a reduced allowance of about £40 each. But under the new Universal Credit welfare system, by not recognizing polygamous marriages, a man’s additional wives will each receive welfare as a single person — which is higher than what they now get in reduced allowance.
Meanwhile, as Breitbart London reported, last year Britain’s first female sharia law judge stated that the “government cannot ask Muslims not to have more than one wife”.
At the same time, as reported by the Times newspaper, Britain is experiencing a “surge” in Sharia marriages, as young British Muslims adopt a more hardline religious stance than their parents:
“As many as 100,000 couples are living in such [sharia] marriages, which are not valid under UK law, experts said…. A leading Islamic family lawyer warned that the increase in Sharia ceremonies among the 2.7 million-strong Muslim population in Britain was also behind a growth in ‘secret polygamy’.”
Attorney Aina Khan, an expert in Islamic family law, said that “Probably a quarter of all couples I see involve polygamy issues. There has been a huge rise in recent years because people can have a secret nikah [Islamic marriage] and no one will know about it.”
It has been claimed that Muslim men in Britain are having up to 20 children each because of polygamy and the rise of “religiously-sanctioned gender discrimination” under Sharia Law. Under Universal Credit, there will be more welfare benefits for those children, in addition to existing welfare called Child Benefit:
The Government is committed to providing the financial support less-well-off families need to cover children’s living costs. We will therefore include fixed amounts within Universal Credit to provide for these costs. The amounts will be based on those currently provided through Child Tax Credit. They will be additional to Child Benefit.
What all of this points to are the following truths:
  1. Immigrants to a country that provides generous welfare benefits will take advantage of the generosity.
  2. Countries with welfare attract immigrants from poor countries.
  3. Immigration (legal or illegal) therefore is incompatible with welfare. A country that offers both is courting financial ruin.
That is why Europe is flooded by Muslim “refugees” and “migrants”. A human tidal wave of 400,000 new migrants will arrive in Italy in coming weeks.
That is also why the United States is invaded by illegal migrants from Mexico and, the latest, from Cuba. At least 7,000 Cuban “refugees” are expected at Texas’ Hildago International Bridge in the next coming days.

Vox Popoli: ENOUGH NOW!

As I predicted months ago, the first stage of the nationalist response to the great orc invasion has begun. I am, however, somewhat surprised to see that it has begun in Sweden. It is a limited response; they're only beating them up... for now:
A mob of black-clad masked men went on a rampage in and around Stockholm's main train station last night beating up refugees and anyone who did not look like they were ethnically Swedish.

Before the attack, the group of 200 people handed out xenophobic leaflets with the message 'Enough now'.

Swedish media reported that the thugs, allegedly linked to Sweden's football hooligan scene, were targeting unaccompanied minors with a 'foreign' background.

The mob, wearing all-black balaclavas and armbands, 'gathered with the purpose of attacking refugee children' Stockholm police spokesman Towe Hagg said.
If the Swedish authorities are foolish enough to attempt to crack down on the anti-immigrant fighters rather than focus on respecting the "refugee children" back to their homelands, the slaughter is going to begin soon. As I warned five years ago, Anders Breivik was the harbinger of things to come.

And before the Swedish authorities decide upon their response, they should probably keep in mind that it isn't only the migrants who will be attacked by the nationalist forces if they decide that it is the nationalists, and not the migrants, who are their enemies.

The leaflet, as translated by the Daily Mail:

ENOUGH NOW!

All over the country, reports are pouring in that the police can no longer cope with preventing and investigating the crimes which strike the Swedish people.

In some cases, for example, in the latest murder of a woman employed at a home for so called ‘unaccompanied minor refugees’ in Molndal, it goes as far as the National Police Commissioner choosing to show more sympathy for the perpetrator than the victim. But we refuse to accept the repeated assaults and harrassment against Swedish women.'

We refuse to accept the destruction of our once to safe society. When our political leadership and police show more sympathy for murderers than for their victims, there are no longer any excuses to let it happen without protest.

When Swedish streets are no longer safe to walk on for normal Swedes, it is our DUTY to fix the problem. This is why, today, 200 Swedish men gathered to take a stand against the north African ‘street children’ who are running rampage in and around the capital’s central station.

Police have clearly showed that they lack the means to stop their progress and we see no other way than to hand down the punishment they deserve ourselves. The justice system has left walk over and the contract of society is therefore broken – it is now every Swedish man’s duty to defend out public spaced against the imported criminality.

Those who gathered today are neither your politician, your journalist or your policeman. We are your father, your brother, your husband, your colleague, your friend and your neighbour.

Swedish men and women deserve safety in their everyday life and we are therefore calling on all others who also see the problem to follow in our footsteps, both in Stockholm and in other places around the country. For a better future together.

The three top-rated comments at the Daily Mail:
  • This is going to become more common across Europe as the weeks go by.
  • It's inevitable, when politicians are unable to provide solutions, the people will.
  • If the government don't act then of course the people will!
However, the initial indications are that the European authorities are going to double down. It appears that they either want a civil war or they have an astonishing faith in their ability to redefine observable reality.
EU leaders insist there is 'NO LINK' between the migrant crisis and New Year sex attacks in Cologne - and vow to bring about an end to 'false accusations'. European Commission wants to 'unconditionally reject' link, minutes show. Officials are also growing concerned about possibility of a public backlash.
"Possibility", the Lacedaemonians said.
